Can we come to a consensus about what rating system to use for comics? If so, I'd adopt this rating system in the "Appropriateness" category of attributes and drop the others. But there are many choices:

* ComicGenesis's Standard -- is this self-proclaimed standard? Do you agree with this standard?
* TokyoPop uses their own system (A (All Ages) -- Y (Youth 10+) -- T (Teen Age 13+) -- OT (Older Teen Age 16+) -- M (Mature Age 18+))
* MPAA (movie ratings)
* TV ratings
* Internet Explorer's "Content Advisor" uses Internet Content Ratings Association (ICRA3)
* Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) used for rating games

I have no desire to be a replacement for NetNanny, etc, but I want to make ComicMatch a place that is reasonably safe for everybody to find what they are looking for and not be subjected to what they are NOT looking for.

Thoughts?
Eddie

I tried to find one pre-existing rating standard that would work for Comic Match, but gave up. That's the nice things about "standards" is there are so many to choose from. Smile Anyway, I've gone ahead and created my own rating standard, one the will act as guidelines for people without implying that some other agency has endorsed the rating:

Suitable for ages 0-6 -- Similar to MPAA-G, TV-Y, TV-G, Web-G, Marvel-All, UK-U, ESRB-EC

Suitable for ages 6-12 -- Similar to MPAA-PG, TV-Y7, TV-Y7-FV, TV-G, Web-G, Marvel-T+, UK-PG, ESRB-10+

Suitable for ages 12-18 -- Similar to MPAA-PG-13, TV-PG, TV-14, Web-14, Marvel-PA, UK-12, UK-15, ESRB-Teen

Suitable for ages 18+ -- Similar to MPAA-R, MPAA-NC-17, TV-MA, Web-MA, Web-NC-17, Marvel-MAX, UK-18, ESRB-Mature, ESRB-Adult Only

Note that 18+ does NOT automatically assume the content is Porn or NSFW (Not-Safe-For-Work). It just means that the comic is suitable for adults.

I hope this works for everybody,
Eddie

I think this is appropriate. Would be nice to have a comment section, especially for the stronger ratings. So the author can say, for example, "rated 18+ for adult situations" or something.

Personally I like lots of comics with adult themes which are not porn, as you say. Sometimes, they are just adult because of the complicated plots and drama, not nudity and sexual stuffs.
